Krabi is one of my favorite parts of Thailand to visit and is a great relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of some of the country’s cities. There are over 150 islands off the coastline, and you’ll love relaxing by the turquoise waters and white sands in the area.
Like many places in Thailand, the accommodation choices can be overwhelming. With simply hundreds of places to stay, it can be hard to know where to stay in Krabi.
If you like, you can even choose to spend a couple of weeks traveling between the areas listed below, as they all offer something unique for visitors.
Regardless of your budget, you’ll find some amazing hotels and hostels in the area, and today I’m here to share my best places to stay in Krabi.

Railay Beach
Railay Beach is one of my favorite areas in the region, with incredible limestone cliffs and beaches. West Railay, which is known as Sunset Beach, is where you will find larger resorts and luxury accommodation options.
East Railay, or Sunrise Beach, doesn’t have a very nice beach, however, offers much cheaper hotel and hostel options. It’s only about a 5-10 minute walk from good beaches, and Railay is small, so you can cross the whole area in less than 10 minutes!
Railay is mainly known for its incredible beaches, so swimming and enjoying the sun are the main things to do here. However, I would highly recommend taking a rock-climbing course too.
There are plenty of climbing schools in the area, and it’s a fun break from the beach. Here are my top places to stay in Krabi in the Railay Beach area:
Best for Luxury – Railay Village Resort
Railay Village Resort is located on West Railay Beach and it offers rooms and villas with beautiful views. The outdoor pool was one of my favourite parts of the resort, and I found it to be one of the best hotels in Krabi.
All villas and rooms are well-equipped with modern facilities, and the onsite restaurant cooks delicious Thai and barbeque food each night. One room here is about $150 a night.
Best for Midrange – Avatar Railay – Adult Only
For couples or solo travelers looking for the perfect quiet escape, Avatar Railay is a great choice. Set near the beach, it’s also very close to Phra Nang Cave. Each room looks over the pool or garden area, and all have private bathrooms.
With the nature surrounding the hotel, you’ll leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. A night here would take out of your pockets about $85-$90.
Best Cheap Hotel – Rapala Rock Wood Resort
For basic accommodation, some of which will require sharing a bathroom, Rapala Rock Wood Resort is a great place in Railay Beach. It’s just 600 yards from the Railay Rock Climbing Point and is a bargain for such a good location.
I loved the fresh Thai food they serve at their outdoor restaurant, and there’s free Wi-Fi throughout the resort. The bungalows have comfortable beds and are each fitted with mosquito nets.
I particularly liked the swimming pool on-site, which was great for chilling out at in the hot weather. You can stay here for only $15-$20 a night.
Best Hostel – Blanco Hideout Railay
Located on Railay East, Blanco Hideout Railay is a fun and sociable place to stay. What I liked a lot about this hostel were the views it offered over the beach and the mountains.
With two bars, a restaurant and a pool, this is a great place to stay if you are looking to meet other travelers. All dorms are air-conditioned, and this resort-style hostel offers an upgrade from other budget options you may have stayed at on your trip.
A dorm here typically costs between $15-$20 a night.
Ao Nang
This is the most popular resort area in Krabi Province and has great nightlife, dining, and shopping. It’s perfect for anyone looking to relax on the beach and has some of the best resorts in Krabi.
You can easily get from Krabi airport to Ao Nang as is only a half-hour drive.
For anyone who’s been backpacking for a while, you may enjoy seeing familiar restaurants and stores here, as it’s the main tourist area.
The beaches are the main thing to do in the area, so expect to spend plenty of time swimming and sunbathing. Here’s a list of the best places to stay in Ao Nang, Krabi:

This resort has an incredible location, set against the beautiful green hills of Ao Nang. The rooms are stylish, featuring a balcony and rain shower in the bathroom.
I personally didn’t stay in this hotel but a friend I’ve met in Phuket booked 3 nights here so I went by to visit him. I ended up sleeping over 2 nights in this hotel.
What I like about this place is the swimming pool and the beach is just a 5-minute walk away. Don’t miss their onsite restaurant, which has lovely views over the coast. The price for a room in this cool hotel starts from $50 a night.
Best Cheap Hotel – Aonang Viva Resort
This is a great budget option located near the beach. Aonang Viva Resort offers everything you could need in your room, as well as a swimming pool on the grounds which even features a small slide.

The price for a regular room here starts from $30 a night, but if you take a dorm you can pay as little as $10 a night for a 4-bed mixed dormitory.
Krabi Town
Krabi Town is the capital of the Province, built alongside the Krabi River. While it’s unlikely to be your final destination, many people choose to spend a few days here between other places.
It has some great fresh markets and restaurants, and you can find some good shopping deals here. It’s the perfect choice for anyone on a budget who wants to enjoy the local life.
It also makes for a great base to explore the attractions away from the beach, or for those who love to party! It doesn’t have its own beaches, however, is well connected by bus and ferry to other local areas. Here are my top choices for hotels in Krabi town:

Koh Phi Phi
If you love to party, Koh Phi Phi is the place for you! The Phi Phi Islands consist of seven different islands, however, only Phi Phi island is inhabited. It takes just a couple of hours to reach by boat from Krabi or Phuket.
The scenery on the island is stunning, with white beaches, limestone cliffs and clear waters. For adventure lovers, there’s plenty to keep you entertained here including rock climbing, scuba diving and cliff jumping.
If you’re just looking to relax, you won’t be alone, as many people just come here to laze on the beaches. There’s a fantastic range of Krabi hotels on the beach here, and regardless of your budget, you’ll have a great time.
