Located in northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is one of the most popular cities for backpackers and tourists to visit. I believe no trip to Thailand is complete without some time in this city, with its diverse range of activities and scenery.
You can get here from Bangkok by either taking a flight from Bangkok Don Meung Airport (DMK) to Chiang Mai Airport (CNX) or by taking an overnight sleeper train which is more preferred by backpackers.
You should check both options as sometimes the flight is cheaper than the train.
Chiang Mai is known for its fantastic night markets, incredible places to eat, and wide range of day trips on offer. It’s one of my favorite places to visit in Thailand, and easy to access by train from Bangkok.
When I’m traveling, I find where I’m staying can completely change my experience of a city. Chiang Mai offers a wide range of accommodations, perfect for travelers on all types of budgets.
Most visitors stay in the central Chiang Mai areas such as the Old City, but there are a few different places to consider.
If you are looking for a peaceful trip, you’ll love the Riverside area.
On the other hand, if you are looking for a vibrant and bustling place, I’d suggest Nimman Road.
Today I’m going to share with you my guide of where to stay in Chiang Mai, to help you plan your next visit to this vibrant city.
